Director
Hella Wenders
Born in 1977 in Münster, Germany, Hella Wenders was introduced to film set work at an early age by her uncle, the well-known film director Wim Wenders. After her master's degree in film and television studies at the Ruhr University Bochum, she decided to direct her own films. She applied to the German Film and Television Academy Berlin in 2003 and was accepted for the four-year course in directing. In addition to the fictional university projects, she has also made short documentaries for Oxfam and the Toten Hosen in Africa, Asia and Central America, among others.
The idea to make her graduation film about Berg Fidel Primary School in Münster came to her through her mother, who is a class teacher at this school, and her aunt Donata Wenders, who made a photo documentary about the class council. Her documentary film "Berg Fidel – One School for All" received the Lüdia at the Lünen Film Festival 2011, was in the pre-selection for the German Film Prize, and was shown successfully in the cinema with almost 40,000 viewers.
