Stefan Haupt, born 1961 in Zurich, is a trained drama teacher and since 1989 has been a freelance director for feature films and documentaries. With his feature film "The Circle", Stefan Haupt won the Panorama Audience Award and the Teddy Award at the Berlinale 2014 and the Swiss Film Award for Best Feature Film in 2015. "The Circle" was also the official Swiss candidate for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
Stefan Haupt lives in Zurich and is married to actress Eleni Haupt. Eleni Haupt plays the leading role of the psychologist Eliane Hess in his current feature film "Dark Fortune". This is their first collaboration on a film together. Stefan Haupt is currently working on his next feature film about the Swiss reformer Ulrich Zwingli, which will be released in Swiss cinemas in January 2019.
