wfilm_hannah_pressebild_websei Hannah Nydahl, born 1946 in Copenhagen, met Ole Nydahl in her childhood. In 1966 they met again in Copenhagen. During their honeymoon in the Himalayas in 1969 they met the 16th Karmapa, the spiritual head of the Karma Kagyu lineage. They were among his first western disciples. After a period of training and meditation, the 16th Karmapa asked them to found meditation centers in the West in his name.

Hannah became known worldwide and a much sought-after translator from Tibetan into English, German and Danish. She also taught at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi and has been involved in the translation of many Buddhist texts.

Still in October 2006 she took part in the rededication of a restored stupa in Wuppertal, which was conducted by Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche. In December 2006 she was diagnosed with malignant tumors with metastases from which she died on April 1, 2007.
