Hemel

Netherlands 2012 / Drama / 83 minutes / Director: Sacha Polak / Suitable for 16 years and over

Young Dutch cinema with impressive leading actress

Her name is Hemel. That means heaven in Dutch. However, the young woman with an insatiable thirst for sex and provocation would be more likely to be associated with hell. Wherever she appears, she's disgusted. While most men are just a piece of meat for her to satisfy her lust, there is one man she is constantly trying to please: Gijs, her father. Since the death of her mother, she has lived with him in a kind of symbiosis that does not tolerate any commitment in their respective affairs. But then the father falls seriously in love.

In episodes, Sacha Polak's debut film draws the picture of an ambivalent, agitated woman. A warrior with a vulnerable soul – full of explosiveness and at the same time great tenderness. Embodied with physical intensity by Hannah Hoekstra.
