About John Irving
John Irving, born on 2 March 1942 in Exeter, New Hampshire, now lives in southern Vermont. His twelve novels to date – especially "The World According to Garp", "The Hotel New Hampshire", "The Cider House Rules" and "A Prayer For Owen Meany" – have become world bestsellers and have been translated into 35 languages, four of which have been made into films. In addition to "The World According to Garp", also "The Hotel New Hampshire", "The Cider House Rules" and "Widow for a Year". In 1992 Irving was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and in 2000 he received an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for his novel "The Cider House Rules", which was adapted by Lasse Hallström. Just in time for Irving's 70th birthday, the 90-minute feature documentary "The World According to Irving", produced by Florianfilm together with SWR/arte, will be released in German cinemas on 1 March 2012.
