Jean-Claude Carrière
Jean-Claude Carrière (1931-2021) was a French screenwriter, essayist, translator and actor. He is credited with the screenplays for timeless film classics such as "Belle de Jour - Schöne des Tages" (1967) or "Der diskrete Charme der Bourgeoisie" (1972) by legendary director Luis Buñuel, but also for the award-winning novel adaptations "Die Blechtrommel" (1978) by Volker Schlöndorff or "Die unerträgliche Leichtigkeit des Seins" (1988) by Philip Kaufman. He was nominated for an Oscar a total of four times during his life and finally received the Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 2015. "Land of Dreams", written by Shoja Azari and him, marks his last screenplay work before his death in 2021.
