Pink Elephants

Germany 2017 / Documentary / 92 minutes / Director: Susanne Bohlmann / Suitable for 12 years and over

Stirring actor documentary with Bernard Hiller

Dancing, crawling, crying, laughing: The American acting and success coach Bernard Hiller, who has already worked with Hollywood greats like Cameron Diaz, takes hopeful actors to their physical and emotional limits in his master classes. In 'Bernie's' courses, freedom and self-abandonment, individuality and narcissism join hands. Here the view into the human soul is revealed.

"Your brain is a piece of shit!" The statements with which Hiller confronts his participants hit them with full force and yet have a clear goal: self-love in the face of unvarnished truth. Criticism of oneself or even the coach: undesirable! Because within the framework of Hiller's Method Acting, the participants explore their greatest fears and hopes and should trust their 'master' Hiller unconditionally. Does the soul striptease turn Hiller's students into happy people and thus into more authentic actors? Don't act, just be: There's more at stake here than acting!

With "Pink Elephants" director Susanne Bohlmann offers a unique look behind the scenes of the dream job of 'actor'. A stirring documentary about the most diverse truths about happiness, success, freedom, manipulation and love. What price are we prepared to pay for our dreams? Bernard Hiller's coaching polarises: Euphoric liberation or manipulative shock therapy? Decide for yourself!
