The Prodigal Sister

Germany 2015 / Drama / 97 minutes / Director: Dennis Todorović / Universal

A warm-hearted tragicomedy about faith and doubt, family and trust

Martha Weiß (Željka Preksavec) and Helene Weiß (Lisa Martinek) – one a strict religious sister in the Swabian Alb, the other a convinced atheist and mother. Two unequal sisters who are constantly at loggerheads. Especially Martha's faith is always a red rag to the younger and wilder Helene. But then Helene has a car accident with her daughter and husband. When she wakes up in hospital and learns that her husband and child are dead, she feels no grief. The memory of her previous life is erased. Diagnosis: retrograde amnesia. Now it is Martha, of all people, who takes her to a convent and gives her stability. But who is this stranger anyway?

"The Prodigal Sister" is a warm-hearted tragicomedy about faith and doubt, family and trust and was premiered at the Hof International Film Festival. Born in Swabia, Dennis Todorović succeeds in touching the audience deeply and making them laugh at the same time. Special spice is added by the original use of punch lines in Swabian dialect and last but not least by the brilliant actresses Željka Preksavec, Lisa Martinek and Beatrice Richter.
