Seed: The Untold Story

Orginal title: Seed: The Untold Story / United States 2016 / Documentary / 94 minutes / Director: Taggart Siegel, Jon Betz / Parental guidance

Magnificent eco-documentary about saving the diversity of seeds

Few things on Earth are as miraculous and vital as seeds. Worshipped and treasured since the dawn of humankind, these subtle flecks of life are the source of all existence. They feed us, clothe us, and provide the raw materials for our everyday lives. In a very real sense, they are life itself. Yet in our modern world, these precious gifts of nature are in grave danger: in the last century, 94% of our seed varieties have disappeared. Biotech chemical companies such as Syngenta and Bayer/Monsanto have long been in control of the global seed market with their genetically modified monocultures. Ever more impassioned farmers, scientists, lawyers, and indigenous seed keepers fight a David and Goliath battle to defend the future of our food. As many irreplaceable seeds near extinction, SEED reveals the harrowing and yet heartening story of passionate seed keepers as they defend a 12,000 year-old food legacy. Without knowing it, they have become real heroes for the whole of humankind, rekindling a lost connection to our most treasured resource and reviving a culture connected to seeds.

"SEED: The Untold Story" is a wake-up call to all of us: protect our seeds because otherwise the rich variety of our food will soon
be a distant memory! The story of our seeds is a defining story of our time. Caught between the runaway juggernaut of industrial agriculture and the ecological, cultural, and spiritual destruction in its wake, seeds offer us a profound chance to restore mutual harmony between people and planet. They are the eternal promise of an abundant new world waiting to be born. But the time for this redemption is running out. A life-changing documentary by Taggart Siegel and Jon Betz, as colourful as the natural variety of our seeds, featuring world-renowned environmental activists such as Vandana Shiva, Jane Goodall, Raj Patel and Percy Schmeiser.

Honoured with 18 festival awards and nominated for an EMMY 2018 as "Outstanding Nature Documentary"
