Premiere of Bitten
German premiere of “My last night with a vampire” in Cologne
Last night, “Bitten” celebrated its German premiere at the almost sold-out Filmhaus Kino in Cologne. Director Romain de Saint-Blanquat personally presented his feature film debut, which was awarded the Méliès d'Argent for best genre film at the Sitges Film Festival. The film takes us into an eerily beautiful world full of sensuality, rebellion and the romance of death - a hypnotic coming-of-age drama with a nostalgic 60s aesthetic and a strong female protagonist.
A hypnotic cinema debut between sensuality, rebellion and the romance of death
In the subsequent film discussion, de Saint-Blanquat spoke about the parallels between the vampire myth and the process of growing up - the feeling of being trapped in an intermediate world, neither child nor adult, similar to a vampire stuck in time. This hovering between worlds was also impressively realized technically in the film: a light drone provided dreamlike images in the forest at night. The intense emotional development of the main character Françoise was not only reflected in the story, but also in the sound and rhythm - with experimental editing and targeted use of sound.
The audience reacted enthusiastically and was visibly moved by the poetic power and atmospheric density of the film. For Romain de Saint-Blanquat, who wrote the screenplay during his studies, “My Last Night with a Vampire” is a deeply personal project - inspired by the aesthetics, the urge for freedom and the musical spirit of optimism of the 1960s. The focus is on multi-layered female characters who seek their own path under the pressure of social expectations - a central motif that has always fascinated Saint-Blanquat in cinema.
“My Last Night with a Vampire” can now be seen on the big screen in selected cities - including Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Düsseldorf, Mannheim, Bremen and Bamberg.
